My four jobs for the development of my performance of romeo and juliet is
1: help organise and create group meetings and documentations.
2: with my group create a modern adaption of romeo and juliet and present this in soap opera form
3: write scripts and block scenes with my group
4: Take Pictures of several moments from our videos and live scenes and anotate them to showthe story board and to show that the original story of romeo and juliet is there underneath the cornyness and youth interpretation of this wonderfull story.

1st Group Meeting: Kayla Aiden and I first sat down as our group and discussed with our teacher (Mandy) what we would do for the performance of our modern adaption of romeo and juliet, alot of ideas were tossed around from a degrassi high rip off to a presentation, but we were left undecided and left class with a few decisions to make.

2nd Group Meeting: the past few days we all went away with a task, this was to figure out what way we would like to represent a modern adaption of romeo and juliet. we sat down and discussed what we would enjoy doing, we came down the idea of a soap opera version of romeo and juliet, we then decided we wanted to film parts of this doing a film performance and a live one.

3rd Group Meeting: today we in detail wrote down ideas and thought on how to do our version of romeo and juliet, together we came up with a general story board we aimed to create a short film of what had preveusly happened on our soap opera "Fair Verona" the perform to kangaroo flat a live wedding scene then a voice over of what will happen next time and conclue with the hospital scene in with the death of our star cross lovers happen.

4th Group Meeting: today using the mini flip camera we film a ruff version of our previously on fair verona so that we may watch it back and craft our performance more, with the help from students from our class we filmed our soap opera versions of the party, balcony and fight scenes.

5th Group Meeting: Today we watched over the film and began to craft the performence more, at the end of the lession we were each given jobs to do kayla and i were writing the live scripts and aiden was taking care of the school shirts.

Drama Unit 2- wicked sac

Q1. Describe examples of hot two non-naturalistic theatrical conventions were used to tell the story in this performance?

  1. Song- in the show wicked this being a musical song was used in every scene to tell the story, defying gravity, popular and no good deed goes unpunished are all good examples of how song was used to create mood tension and to portray the characters emotions as well as tell us, the audience what is going on and tell us the story. For example Popular set after the girls become friends is a song about conforming to the way some people think we should look, dress and sound and what are the consequences of not folding to public pressure.

  1. Flight- this was used to portray to the audience that Elphaba could defy gravity, when no one else could it also gave the audience a taste of magic that we can not get in real life. Stage craft used in this was a mechanical lift, lighting and smoke. This was how to us, with Glinda’s Bubble which is a mechanical circle attached to a hydrolic station off stage and the actress is harnessed onto and Elphaba’s Flying broomstick which as I will explain in detail in question five is a mechanical lift and clamp.

Q2.Describe one character from the performance, including a brief description of their personality, status and motivation (what did they want?) and their purpose in the plot (who or what did they represent)?

Elphaba- Elphaba is a passionate, caring and hot tempered character, she is willing to do what ever it takes to stand by her convictions, equality is what she believes in and she will go do great lengths to help this become a reality. She is the sister of Nesa-rose and daughter of the mayor of munchkin land. The book was written in the 1990’s and America was going to invade the Middle East there was a big surge for placement in the world. Along side being the lead role in the musical and representing hope, faith and love, i feel that Elphaba represents men’s urge to feel wanted and accepted. The character portrays this when she is put down and tormented for the colour of her skin, yet she still see’s the brighter side of life and fights to feel accepted. Her character is one we may all related to and it is clear that she sends a message to the audience that it doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from you have the right to feel happy and safe and you shouldn’t settle for anything less. Her motivation in this story as I have said is to feel accepted and wanted and she finds this in Fiyero towards the end of the play.

Q3. Evaluate how on actor used his or her expressive skills to portray to their character. You will need to describe at least 3 specific expressive skills the actor used and evaluate how effective these were to portray the character to the audience.

Rob Guest- Rob Guest played The Wizard for over one hundred performances in the Melbourne version of Wicked the musical. He gave the audience, visual and verbal satisfaction as he played this role. Using he renowned voice to tell the story of how he was declared “wonderful” by the citizens of oz and he merely accepted the name he used a mid-range pitch and a pace that was easy to follow and as for delivery and volume it was easy to hear from the top balcony and most enjoyable.
The audience is treated to a dedicated and deep last performance. Facial expressions, gestures and movements brought back the Broadway of old with hands in pocket’s and the shaking of the hat with a simple two step walk, this was accompanied with facial expressions that never were tacky or to much but were over stimulated to real life this all reminding us of what a great actor he was to musical theatre R.I.P
Q4. Evaluate how two dramatic elements were used to engage the audience and communicating meaning. You may refer to the use of any stagecraft elements as part of your answer.

Tension- Tension was used near the end when Glinda is waiting for Elphaba to appear after the death of her sister and Elphaba walks onto stage and we are given a few seconds of hesitant pause because the scene is started, then through-out the scene in felt that nearly every line was held back a bit because the two best friend cant hate each even though there is reason to, I found this scene to be one of my favourites as it reflects real life better then most dramatic plays the high tension between Glinda and Elphaba is beautiful.

Mood- Mood was a big thing for this play to be pulled of in front of the thousands of viewer’s, to achieve this sound, space, timing and tension were used to a superb effect. Most of all though music was used to the best advantages to portray a mood and emotion to the audience. When a song was to be song or the scene was starting to build the orchestra would fire up with soft slowly rising music to give us a feeling. The mood is changed many time in the play for example the early scene’s send a message of innocence while they are at high school and as the show continues through to act two most of the innocence of the characters is taking away before us another example of changing moods is when the girl confront each other and Glinda slaps Elphaba and we are put into a mood of tension but then Elphaba asks Glinda if she feel’s better and she Replies with a big comedic YESSSSSS which gives the audiences a reason to relax and laugh again and before we get to comfortable Elphaba slaps Glinda Back and the fight is on

Q5. For one of the moments represented in the pictures above, or for another moment of your choice, explain how two stagecraft elements were used in the performance.

Defying Gravity- Defying Gravity was musical land mark, with the clamp used to lift Elphaba into the air and a combination of smoke and lights it is an awesome feat to musical theatre. Half way through the song Elphaba runs to the back of the room there the actress will step onto a platform and a clamp will wrap around her waist and she will be raised and pushed forward onto centre stage here she will sing the rest of the song. The lighting then will be washed across the stage with blue and green and smoke will flow out and to the eye it will look as if she is flying, this is a spectacle because there is nostrings, ropes or anything that is obvious to the audience of how they make her fly.
